A spokesperson from the White House has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump will not be extending a hand of mercy to Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the once-untouchable founder and former CEO of the now-defunct FTX cryptocurrency exchange. Apparently, the man who orchestrated a multi-billion-dollar disaster has met his match in the form of Trump, who seems quite content in leaving SBF to rot in prison.
According to the spokesperson, the decision of clemency rests entirely in Trump’s hands-hands that are, according to all reports, firmly gripping the “no pardon” button. Yes, folks, no redemption here. Not even a hint of a presidential pardon. It’s as if Trump’s had his fill of billion-dollar boondoggles and is unwilling to let this one slide.
Bankman-Fried’s Dramatic Attempts to Escape Fate After the FTX Collapse
March 2024. Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison. Seven counts of money laundering, conspiracy, and fraud. The man was practically begging for an Oscar-worthy performance with his defense, which blamed the whole debacle on the Biden administration’s supposed vendetta against his pro-Republican donations. Apparently, when you throw money at politicians, they’re supposed to thank you with a pardon when things go south.
Meanwhile, his parents, those model Stanford professors, have tried pulling every string they know. But alas, not even the almighty academic influence could sway Trump. Oh, and let’s not forget SBF’s “twist” on the FTX collapse. He recently claimed that his own lawyers and successor, John J. Ray III, had orchestrated the entire downfall to profit from the bankruptcy. Nice try, Sam. At least he had the decency to claim the $7.1 billion investor repayment was an act of “goodwill.” If goodwill had a price tag, that is.

Not one to give up, Bankman-Fried recently took to X (formerly Twitter) in a desperate attempt to woo Trump. His latest stunt? Calling Trump’s tariff policies “right on crypto” and praising his bold Venezuelan extradition move. SBF’s political pivot was practically dripping with praise. He even took the opportunity to attack Judge Lewis Kaplan, the man who sentenced him, claiming Kaplan’s “political bias” was obvious. Oh, how the tables have turned!
Clinton-appointed judge Lewis Kaplan made his political bias very clear when sentencing me and @rsalame7926.
Kaplan ranted about how I “set up a vehicle for making political donations to the right.”
“The state of our political life in this country is in jeopardy,” he said, and…

What’s Next for Bankman-Fried?
As it stands, Bankman-Fried remains locked up in the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York. The 33-year-old man, caught between a rock and a hard place, is now looking at his “last resort”-an appeal to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Perhaps the court will have more sympathy, or maybe they’ll just roll their eyes and laugh. Who knows?
His supporters are scrambling, urging Trump to pardon him, just as other crypto moguls like Binance’s Changpeng Zhao and BitMEX’s Arthur Hayes have gotten their passes. But Trump’s stance remains firm: SBF defrauded people out of $8 billion. That’s not the kind of thing you forgive with a simple stroke of a pen. No, Sam, not this time.
