The interest rate, a mere 1% above Lido’s APR, is as generous as a gull in a landfill. The 36-month term, meanwhile, is a testament to the patience of those who believe DeFi will one day make sense.
Aave may repay early without penalty-a rare kindness in the world of blockchain finance. Mantle, however, will hold a “first-priority lien” on the collateral, which is essentially a fancy way of saying, “We’ll take your assets if you fail, which you probably will.”
The collateral requirements-5% of revenue and $11M in AAVE tokens-are as thorough as a Victorian marriage contract. Should Aave default, Mantle will demand immediate payment. A scenario as likely as a penguin winning the World Cup.
Bybit Backs Mantle’s Proposal-A Match Made in Heaven (or Hell)
Bybit’s Ben Zhou, ever the philanthropist, declared, “When we got hacked, the industry helped us.” A sentiment as heartfelt as a ransom note. One imagines the DeFi community gathering in a circle, chanting, “We are all victims!”
Mantle’s proposal, according to its authors, “reinforces token holder confidence.” A confidence as fragile as a bridge built on Ethereum.
The interest proceeds, destined for MNT token burns or ecosystem funding, are a masterstroke of self-interest. A loan that benefits both parties… or at least one of them.
Kelp Exploit: The Unseen Hero of This Tale
The Kelp DAO exploit, a tale of 116,500 rsETH tokens and $292 million in losses, has become the latest in a long line of DeFi tragedies. Aave, now the reluctant hero, faces bad debt estimates of $124M to $230M. A figure so large it could fund a small nation’s infrastructure.
The attacker, a digital Robin Hood of sorts, swapped stolen ETH for BTC via THORChain. A move so audacious it would make a Wall Street banker blush.
Several DeFi entities, including Lido and Stani Kulechov, have pledged their own ETH to the cause. A show of solidarity as genuine as a politician’s promise.
