Jack Dorsey’s Bluetooth Bitchat: A Weekend Masterpiece!

While most of us were busy binge-watching Netflix and stuffing our faces with pizza, Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Bitcoin tech firm Block and former Twitter CEO, decided to spend his weekend building a messaging app that exclusively communicates via Bluetooth. 😮 He calls it “Bitchat,” and it’s already causing quite a stir in the tech world. 🤯

In a post on X, Dorsey shared his weekend project, which involved learning about Bluetooth mesh networks, relays, and store and forward models, message encryption models, and a few other things. 🤓

But wait, there’s more! Dorsey has even published a whitepaper on Github and uploaded a test version of the app to Apple’s “Testflight” platform. The whitepaper describes Bitchat as “a secure, decentralized, peer-to-peer messaging app that works over Bluetooth mesh networks.” 😲

What’s even more impressive is that Bitchat doesn’t even require an Internet connection or phone number, according to the whitepaper. It also features end-to-end encryption, automatically pitting itself against Meta’s Whatsapp. 💬

However, a few people pointed out several key features that are missing from Bitchat. But Dorsey is not one to be deterred. He responded, “Yes, will work on these. Started small.” 💪

Not bad for a weekend’s worth of work, eh? 😉
