Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away-okay, let’s get serious-former Binance CEO, the one and only Changpeng Zhao, spilled some tea on Nov. 9. He revealed that two top government officials from two different, unnamed countries (because, of course, secrecy is the new black) referred to cryptocurrency as “the hard money” during his advisory talks. He happily declared this as a sign that the world is finally waking up to the economic role of crypto on the global stage. 💪

What ‘Hard Money’ Means and Why It Matters

Now, let’s break it down-what does “hard money” even mean? According to Investopedia (because, of course, they’re the experts), it refers to currency made of or backed by valuable commodities, like gold or silver. These commodities are expected to hold their value and not be as easily inflated as, say, your last pay raise. So, it’s like crypto just leveled up from “the new cool kid on the block” to “the wise old sage who knows how to keep its value.” 💎

Bitcoin and gold together make up about 14% of the global money supply in 2025. That’s quite the power duo, right? Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley even called Bitcoin the “scarcest store of value in the world.” With an annual supply increase of just 0.84%-compared to gold’s 1.5-2%-Bitcoin is definitely flexing its muscles. Oh, and CZ recently pointed out that Bitcoin’s transparency is far better than gold’s mysterious verification process. Take that, glittery rock! ✨

CZ’s Advisory Roles in Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan

Let’s talk business. Zhao got cozy with governments across the globe. He was appointed to Pakistan’s Crypto Council in April 2024. Now, Pakistan has about 15 to 20 million crypto users-impressive, right? That’s roughly 8% of the population, and it’s only growing. Then, in May 2025, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov handed Zhao an advisory role on digital assets and blockchain. Zhao’s got the magic touch-or maybe he’s just really good at convincing governments to make him a big deal. 🤷‍♂️

Fun fact: these gigs came after Zhao’s release from a little four-month U.S. vacation in 2024 (you know, the one involving a money laundering sentence). He also got a pardon from Trump in October 2024. A little bit of drama, a little bit of redemption-what’s not to love? And just weeks later, boom-“hard money” enters the conversation. 🍿

So what’s Kyrgyzstan doing? Oh, just launching its national stablecoin, the KGST, in October 2025, and setting up a crypto reserve (which, yes, includes BNB). Pakistan? Announcing a Bitcoin strategic reserve in May 2025 and licensing exchanges by September. These countries are moving fast. Who knew crypto could be this… political? 🇰🇬🇵🇰

The Growing Wave of Government Cryptocurrency Adoption

The U.S. is leading the pack with a cool $34.2 billion in digital assets, landing them eighth among the global crypto whales, according to Arkham Intelligence. Thanks to Trump’s March 2025 executive order, the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is now stacked with 326,588 BTC. That’s a lot of Bitcoin, folks. But hey, it came from a “pig-butchering scam” seizure. Honestly, we can’t make this stuff up. 🐷💰

In the U.K., it’s a little quieter with $6.36 billion in holdings, but they’re still in the game. El Salvador, on the other hand, is holding strong with $652 million in Bitcoin as legal tender. Despite global pressure, they’re still buying more Bitcoin. Respect. 💪

Galaxy Research predicts at least five more countries will add Bitcoin to their reserves by the end of the year. That’s a lot of “hard money” talk, and it’s shifting the narrative from crypto being seen as “speculative” to being recognized as “sound money.” Analysts are now forecasting Bitcoin could hit $200,000 by late 2025.
