Coinbase, that bustling marketplace of numbers, is said to be talking with Anthropic to borrow Claude Mythos Preview, a frontier model with the air of a locked cabinet and the promise of cybersecurity prowess.
The report, whispered by The Information, reveals a mood among the exchanges of crypto that danger is no distant rumor but the neighbor at the door, as threats grow craftier under the watchful eyes of machines.
Project Glasswing Raises the Stakes for Crypto
In early April 2026, Anthropic released Glasswing, a defensive undertaking meant to grant a select circle a guarded glimpse at Mythos.
Introducing Project Glasswing: an urgent initiative to help secure the world’s most critical software.
It’s powered by our newest frontier model, Claude Mythos Preview, which can find software vulnerabilities better than all but the most skilled humans.

The model, in its patient testing, uncovered thousands of long-forgotten vulnerabilities, including a 27-year-old blemish in OpenBSD and a 16-year-old flaw in FFmpeg.
Founding partners include Amazon Web Services, Apple, Google, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, and Palo Alto Networks. More than forty other organizations maintaining critical software also received access.
Anthropic pledged $100 million in compute credits and $4 million to open-source security groups for the program.
For Coinbase, the largest US crypto exchange, the moment carries weight. The platform endured a serious insider breach in 2025 that exposed the personal data of about 70,000 users after overseas support agents were bribed by criminals.
Coinbase refused a $20 million ransom and instead posted a matching bounty for information leading to arrests.
Anthropic’s own research shows that AI agents can autonomously exploit smart contract vulnerabilities, generating simulated millions in stolen funds.
New on our Frontier Red Team blog: We tested whether AIs can exploit blockchain smart contracts.
In simulated testing, AI agents found $4.6M in exploits.
The research (with @MATSprogram and the Anthropic Fellows program) also developed a new benchmark:

That finding explains why exchanges may see Mythos access as essential rather than optional.
Mythos will not reach general availability. Anthropic plans to integrate its capabilities into future Claude releases with strengthened safeguards.
Post-preview pricing sits at $25 per million input tokens and $125 per million output tokens.
Whether Coinbase secures formal partnership status or broader Glasswing access remains unclear.
The exchange already uses Claude for customer support operations across more than 100 regions.
