They’ve handed the reins to Anchor Bank of Palm Beach Gardens, a Florida titan with pockets deep enough to swallow the wreckage. “Fear not, dear depositors,” they coo, “your money is safe-for now.”

“The three branches of Community Bank and Trust – West Georgia will reopen as branches of Anchor Bank during its normal business hours on Monday, May 4, 2026. Depositors of Community Bank and Trust – West Georgia will automatically become depositors of Anchor Bank. The deposits assumed by Anchor Bank will continue to be insured by the FDIC, so there is no need for customers to change their banking relationship.”

Anchor Bank, with its $606.94 million in assets and $477 million in deposits, stands ready to absorb the fallen. A financial Lazarus, rising from the ashes of its Georgian cousin. But at what cost? The FDIC estimates a tidy $97 million will vanish into the ether, a mere drop in the ocean of greed and mismanagement. Ah, the beauty of the system!

And let us not forget January’s spectacle, when the Metropolitan Capital Bank & Trust was felled by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Two banks down, how many more to go? The year is young, and the vultures are hungry.
