Oh great, now Albania’s AI-powered virtual assistant, Diella, has just been promoted to a “minister.” Why didn’t I think of that? You mean to tell me there’s now an AI running the government? It’s practically a Twitter thread for decades! 🤷♂️
“Diella is the first cabinet member who isn’t physically present, but is virtually created by AI,” announced Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama at the Socialist Party shindig. And guess what? It’s supposed to keep Albania free of corruption or something. Like, big news. 🎉
It’s supposed to oversee all government procurement and scare those scandalous Albanian contractors. Can you imagine telling a corrupt contractor, “Sorry, but Diella won’t take bribe emojis”? 🤖
Reports say Diella, charmingly named after the sun, was previously doing mundane stuff on the e-Albania platform, helping tech-illiterate Albanians get their driver’s licenses on command-what a hero! 🌞
And get this, Diella has reportedly been a busy bee, issuing more than 36,600 digital documents. I wonder who’s responsible if Diella messes up? 🤔

In what can only be described as a historic “facepalm” moment, Diella isn’t the first. Ukraine also had its own digital spokesperson, Victoria Shi, last May. Can’t wait for what’s next: a robot president who votes like a teenager? 🤖💵
👋 Meet Victoria Shi – a digital representative of the MFA of Ukraine, created using AI to provide timely updates on consular affairs!
For the first time in history, the MFA of Ukraine has presented a digital persona that will officially comment for the media.

Albania, not exactly known for its fintech prowess, embraced AI more than crypto since 2020. But the Bank of Albania loves to moan about crypto trading, as if that slows adoption. 📉
Albania’s Saga of Corruption: Spoiler – Everyone Guilty?
Despite the new tech, Albania continues its soap opera of corruption with officials caught with their hands in the cookie jar (or should I say bribe jar?). Erion Veliaj and Illir Meta got spotlight time for corruption this year. Bliss! 🎭
And remember Lefter Koka? Former environmental minister, celebrity of the prison world, sentenced for that 3.7 million euro bribe. Can’t make this stuff up! 🌍🚧
Corruption has been the world’s longest-running series in Albania, keeping them out of the EU club. But Rama’s hopeful, dreaming of EU membership by 2030. Sure, because dreams are real. 🤞
