In 2026, companies that mine Bitcoin saw much bigger gains than Bitcoin itself, rising 56% so far this year, while Bitcoin’s value dropped 17%, according to a report from 10x Research.
Despite a drop in Bitcoin’s price due to higher Treasury yields and signals of a stricter Federal Reserve policy, stocks in the mining and AI infrastructure sectors performed strongly last week, leading the market’s gains.
As a researcher tracking the industry, I’m seeing clear signs that the shift from crypto mining to AI infrastructure is speeding up. We’re observing this through major investments – everything from large deals for GPUs from hyperscalers to significant acquisitions of large campuses – all pointing to this accelerating trend.
Bitcoin Miners Lead the Charge as AI Infrastructure Spending Reshapes the Sector

1. KEEL Infrastructure (KEEL), +30%
KEEL, previously known as Bitfarms, saw its stock price jump the most in a week after Chardan Capital began recommending it as a ‘Buy’.
The company is shifting its focus from general power generation to supporting the growing demands of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing in Pennsylvania, Washington, and Quebec. This change aligns with a larger trend of Bitcoin mining companies expanding into AI, which is significantly impacting how these companies are valued through 2026.
2. Cipher Mining (CIFR), +29%
Cipher continued to gain momentum, fueled by new investment and advancements in securing large-scale leasing agreements.
Investors are eager for the company to announce more AI data centers because of its strong position in Texas power and healthy financial situation. These factors are driving the demand.
3. IREN (IREN), +29%
On May 26th, IREN agreed to buy Blackwell GPU systems from Dell for $1.6 billion. This purchase supports IREN’s five-year, $3.4 billion contract to provide managed AI cloud services.
I’m really excited about IREN’s new facility in Childress, Texas. They’re aiming to have it up and running by early 2027, and if everything goes as planned, it should significantly boost their revenue – from $3.7 billion a year to $4.4 billion. As an investor, that’s a big jump I’m looking forward to!
4. TeraWulf (WULF), +24%
On May 26th, TeraWulf announced a new 285-acre data center campus in Eastern Kentucky, called Muskie. The company anticipates this campus will eventually be able to support up to 1 gigawatt of power, with the first 500 megawatts expected to be available in late 2028.
This purchase allows TeraWulf to grow its artificial intelligence and high-performance computing capabilities beyond its current locations at Lake Mariner and Abernathy.
5. Hut 8 (HUT), +22%
Hut 8 signed a 15-year, $9.8 billion lease for its Beacon Point campus in Nueces County, Texas.
This new 352-megawatt data center was built using NVIDIA’s standard design and increases Hut 8’s total contracted AI computing power to around 597 megawatts. This supports Hut 8’s ongoing growth plans in Louisiana, Texas, and Illinois.
A recent report from 10X Research noted that Hut 8’s large $9.8 billion lease in Texas demonstrates the company is quickly shifting from Bitcoin mining to providing infrastructure for artificial intelligence.
Why Bitcoin Lagged the Miners
Bitcoin traded around $73,367 on Thursday, down nearly 5% on the week, BeInCrypto data showed.
The BlackRock IBIT fund continued to see more money leave than enter, similar to what’s been happening with BlackRock’s investment in AI infrastructure. This suggests investors are shifting funds away from simply holding Bitcoin and towards companies that mine Bitcoin and have contracts with large data centers.
The yield on 10-year Treasury bonds dipped slightly to between 4.47% and 4.50% as investors awaited the latest inflation data. The upcoming Federal Reserve meeting on June 16-17 will likely be a key factor in determining if mining stocks will continue to rise through the summer.
