You Won’t Believe Hal Finney’s First Bitcoin Tweet 😂

Seventeen years ago, cryptographer Hal Finney posted the first Bitcoin-related tweet: “Running Bitcoin.” What is the deal with that? He downloaded the software, ran the thing, and somehow that qualifies as a milestone. He was probably the first person outside Satoshi Nakamoto to operate the Bitcoin client. You run it, you prove it exists-end of story. 🤨

The next day, Satoshi sent him the first transaction-ten BTC-to prove the network works. Ten BTC. It’s like a neighborhood pep rally in digital currency form. The drama, the suspense-not exactly a Broadway show, but we’ll take it. 🥳

ALS showed up in 2009-great timing, right?-but Finney kept testing, reporting bugs, until his death in 2014. He did the boring, essential work that actually keeps the thing from collapsing. His early work and dedication are now recognized as foundational to Bitcoin’s growth and success. The basement guy who kept the lights on, and we all act surprised when it lands on the front page. 🛠️🏗️
