The long-standing feud between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov has flared up again, this time on Crypto Twitter. McGregor has publicly accused Khabib’s recently launched NFT collection, hosted on Telegram, of being a scam targeting fans.
The statement immediately drew a reaction from Khabib, and ZachXBT, a blockchain investigator, quickly pointed out issues with a previous token launch by McGregor.
Crypto Feud Ignites After Khabib’s NFT Launch
This week, Khabib announced a new collection of digital collectibles on Telegram. The collection features the traditional Dagestani papakha hat he famously wore when entering the UFC arena.
The collection sold out quickly, generating about $4.4 million in a single day.
The ex-UFC champion described the NFTs not as investments, but as unique digital gifts rooted in Dagestani culture. He explained they were designed to be easily shared on Telegram.
However, McGregor disputed this claim publicly. He accused Khabib of running a “multi-million-dollar scam,” saying that promotional posts were removed after people had purchased something.
His comments triggered immediate backlash from both MMA and crypto communities.
Has anyone who bought the Khabib NFT actually reported being scammed? And can anyone provide proof that Khabib misrepresented the NFT he was selling? The answer to both is no. It’s clear some of the criticism stems from prejudice.

McGregor Escalates Long-Running Rivalry
McGregor’s recent post brought back the intense rivalry that started after Khabib beat him at UFC 229 in 2018. They’ve been trading insults for years, frequently bringing up family, their reputations, and national pride in their arguments.
McGregor recently claimed Khabib exploited his father’s memory and Dagestani culture to trick fans. He accused Khabib of using these things to simply make money, presenting it as a celebration of his background.
The accusation spread quickly, drawing strong reactions across social media.
Khabib quickly replied to McGregor, calling him a liar and claiming McGregor was attempting to damage his reputation following their fight at UFC 229.
He reiterated that the NFTs are cultural gifts and denied any wrongdoing.
ZachXBT’s Intervention Shifts the Narrative
The conflict grew worse when ZachXBT, a blockchain detective, responded to Conor McGregor’s posts. He shared McGregor’s comments and then accused McGregor of doing the very thing he was criticizing others for.
As a researcher, I find it incredibly difficult to believe that Conor McGregor, someone many see as a positive figure, would leverage his reputation and Irish heritage to mislead his fans. The allegations suggest he promoted and quickly sold digital tokens online, then removed all related posts, leaving buyers with significant financial losses. It just doesn’t seem plausible that someone perceived as ‘the good guy’ would engage in such behavior.

Earlier this year, ZachXBT highlighted the problems with Conor McGregor’s REAL token. It didn’t raise as much money as planned, its price quickly dropped, and people quickly lost interest in it.
McGregor removed most of the marketing material, effectively halting the project and leaving investors disappointed.
People on Crypto Twitter were quick to point out what they saw as a double standard. They observed that Conor McGregor’s own cryptocurrency actually had more warning signs than Khabib Nurmagomedov’s digital collectibles on Telegram.
After the backlash intensified, McGregor deleted his “scam” posts about Khabib.
Although there have been claims made, there’s no evidence showing that anyone who bought these NFTs has lost access to them. They continue to work as intended within Telegram, functioning as digital gifts without any issues or frozen funds.
Khabib has not marketed the drop as a financial investment.
