Well, butter my biscuit and call me impressed! A California man, known as GothFerrari (because nothing says “I’m a serious criminal” like a dark aesthetic and a fast car), has been sentenced to 78 months in the clink. His crime? Running a crypto social engineering ring that, when the online hustle failed, turned into a good old-fashioned burglary spree. Because why hack a wallet when you can just smash a window with a brick?
Marlon Ferro, 20, of Santa Ana, will also have to cough up $2.5 million in restitution and spend three years on supervised release. Let’s hope he’s not planning on buying any more Hermès Birkin bags anytime soon.
The $250 Million Crypto Heist: A Multi-State, Multi-Disaster Operation
According to a federal investigation that probably involved more coffee than a Starbucks warehouse, this crew drained over $250 million in cryptocurrency from victims between late 2023 and early 2025. They operated out of California, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and even overseas. Talk about a frequent flyer program!
Their roles included database hacking, target identification, fraudulent phone calls, and money laundering. But when all else failed, they sent in Ferro, their “instrument of last resort,” to break into homes and steal hardware wallets. Because nothing says “professional criminal” like a brick through a window.
“Marlon Ferro served as the criminal enterprise’s instrument of last resort… they turned to Ferro to break into homes and steal hardware wallets outright,” US Attorney Pirro said. Basically, he was the Plan B when Plan A (being a smooth-talking crypto wizard) didn’t work out.

Brick-Through-Window Burglaries and Designer Dreams
In February 2024, Ferro broke into a home in Winnsboro, Texas, and stole a hardware wallet holding 100 Bitcoin, then worth over $5 million. Because who needs a 401(k) when you can just smash and grab?
That July, he went full spy mode in New Mexico, using a hidden cell phone to surveil a residence. When his co-conspirators signaled the home was empty (thanks, iCloud!), he smashed a window with a brick. Classy.
But it wasn’t all burglaries. Ferro also laundered funds for the ring, using fake IDs to funnel over $255,000 in designer clothing to his buddies. Because what says “I’m a criminal mastermind” like a closet full of Gucci?
The stolen money also funded some seriously extra spending: $500,000 nightclub tabs, Hermès Birkin bags, private jets, and exotic cars worth up to $3.8 million. Someone clearly didn’t get the memo about living below your means.
Authorities finally caught up with Ferro in May 2025, finding two firearms in his possession. He pleaded guilty in October 2025 to one count of conspiracy to participate in a racketeering-influenced and corrupt organization. Or, as we like to call it, “The Dumb and Dumber Crime Syndicate.”
